Tom Owings is president and Broker of Homestead Properties, Inc., and is a practicing attorney with Owings Law Firm, LLC. He began his real estate career 42 years ago in 1972 in Bibb County, Alabama as a parallel career while teaching. Tom holds bachelor and master's degrees from The University of West Alabama, Doctor of Philosophy degree from The University of Alabama, and a law degree from Birmingham School of Law. He has earned the professional REALTOR® designations of GRI, CRS, and CRB. He has been a licensed real estate instructor for the Alabama Real Estate Commission, and has taught real estate relicense, post license and continuing education courses for several schools, colleges, and institutes. Tom is a Viet Nam era veteran, serving in the U. S. Air Force and Alabama Air National Guard from 1966-1972. ? Tom served over twenty years as a Council Member and Mayor of the City of Brent and over 30 years as an active volunteer fireman, In 2000 he served as President of the Tuscaloosa Association of REALTORS®, and in 2007 served as President of the 16,000 member Alabama Association of REALTORS®. In 2013, He received the David D. Roberts, Sr., Award, the highest honor given by the Alabama Association of REALTORS® to an individual who has been a REALTOR® for at least 20 years and who has made significant contributions to the community, and the local, state and national REALTOR® organizations. In 2017, Tom Owings earned the REALTOR® Emeritus Status, a designation by the National Association of REALTORS®.
