Rick has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience specializing in retail leasing and development. He was the Vice President of Leasing at Bentall Retail for 9 years, where he supervised the Eastern leasing team and specialized in remerchandising and reworking multi-format shopping centres. This involved redeveloping old format shopping centres to modern efficient models, unlocking value and the successful repositioning of the centres. The Portfolio size was over 10 million square feet of retail at that time. He developed and integrated new procedures for the leasing department. Duties included training and supervising the day-to-day activities of the leasing representatives, with emphasis on budget goals for annual targets including the calculation of net effective rent projections and presenting proposals to pension fund owners/partners of the shopping centres for approval. Supervised integration of Beutal Goodman and Sunlife retail portfolios into Bentall Retail Services model. Cultivated new business opportunities including niche retail in institutions such as Toronto Western Hospital, and created strategies and presentations for new business to existing portfolio, thereby increasing value of properties. At First Capital, he asset managed 25 properties (approx. 2 million sq. ft.). Strategised, managed and leased high-end/mixed use centres such as Shoppes at Liberty Village, Humbertown Shopping Centre, York Mills Gardens, Meadowvale Shopping Centre, Rutherford Marketplace and Leaside Village. His specialty is retail leasing, however he has extensive experience with office and industrial real estate as well.
