A Brooklyn, NY native, Joseph J Smerina, AIA, has had a love for the Architecture and for the City of New York since childhood. Attending Brooklyn Technical High School and Pratt institute, he expanded his local Education by studying abroad in Europe. Mr. Smerina, is a skilled Artist and Designer who trained with renowned architectural illustrator and children’s book author, Al Lorenz, during the creation of the book, “Illustrating Architecture”, before becoming the Principal Designer of New York Design Architects, LLP. In addition to the day to day management of New York Design’s marketing and finances, Mr. Smerina acts as Lead Designer and project principal for several ongoing projects. He is known for his problem solving capabilities, which he developed during his 20 years of work experience, in various roles including, Architect, Owner, Developer, and Contractor, on hundreds of projects of all sizes and complexities. He has worked on all sides of the table and understands that the needs of each team member must be met for a project to be successful. Mr. Smerina is a member of the American Institute of Architects and possesses multiple licenses to practice Architectural in several States.
