Jose immigrated to the United States from Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal in 1969 and obtained his real estate broker's license in 1973. Prior to establishing Castelo Real Estate, he worked for a local real estate company for five years. Since its inception, Castelo Real Estate has been operating from its current office location at 1815 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford. In 1981, Jose acquired his Massachusetts Insurance Broker's license and subsequently launched Castelo Insurance Agency. The same year also marked the beginning of his foray into building new homes with the establishment of New Homes by Castelo, Inc. In 1988, Jose joined the ERA franchise and transformed his company into ERA Castelo Real Estate Inc., ranking among the top 100 ERA franchise companies. In 1994, he founded Castle Mortgage Brokerage Inc., and eventually consolidated all these entities into The Castelo Group. With additional locations in Dartmouth and Fall River, The Castelo Group offers a comprehensive range of services, including insurance and mortgages, providing a convenient "one-stop shop" for all aspects of home ownership.
