John started his real estate career over 30 years ago as a commercial leasing broker with CBRE in midtown Manhattan. After finishing a master’s in real estate from New York University in 1991, he moved to Greystone Realty Corporation, an asset management firm owned by NY Life. During his time at Greystone, the company managed a portfolio of over 120 buildings valued over $1.5B. His position as acquisition analyst and asset manager for the commercial portfolio helped prepare him for the practices of detailed analysis he so enjoys today. As John’s family grew, he began to consider other environments that would be conducive to raising a family and keeping them together. He explored the West extensively, but something about Taos kept calling him back. It may have been the stillness of the high desert, the consistent and ever incredible sunsets, or the vast expansiveness of the landscape. It may have been the family-oriented community filled with artists and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world. It may have been any one of these things… but anyone who knows John well will tell you it was mostly for the world-class skiing twenty minutes from his office (and the bluebird days that accompany it). So, in 1994, he moved to Taos to continue his passion for a full life as a husband, father, skier and yogi in this wonderful community. John purchased Taos Properties Real Estate in 1999, after working in the company for four years. His wife, Lisa, helped manage initially, and then became a licensed broker in 2004. They have been running the company together as a team ever since. There are many benefits, as well as challenges, to owning a small business in Taos. Their success is a result many years of hard work in a tight knit community which respects effort and honesty. Their business, as well as their family focus, has allowed them to create intimate relationships and to integrate into the lives of families and friends they now call their community. In addition to John’s position at Taos Properties, he has had the opportunity to work with many high-net-worth individuals and families. From 2007 through 2015, he was the President of Cooke Street Investments, a portfolio company for a private equity firm in NY. During that time, John helped create and develop a long-range acquisition strategy for a portfolio of properties across several asset classes, in New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Currently, he serves as the President of the Taos County Association of Realtors. John’s time in this community has been fulfilling and rewarding. With over 30 years of experience and a broad scope of knowledge about the real estate market, he can say with confidence that he can help you with all your real estate needs.
