James Godfrey

James is a Partner in Culverwell and has over 25 years’ experience in the retail and leisure sectors, providing strategic development, leasing, asset management, investment and acquisition advice to a wide variety of clients. He has an in-depth understanding of and experience in shopping centre leasing and currently provides expert advice on Scotland’s major shopping centres including Union Square, Silverburn, Buchanan Galleries and St James Quarter for Hammerson, Landsec and Nuveen Real Estate respectively. James advised Aberdeen Standard Investments on their successful South St Andrew Square mixed-use development which was 100% pre-let at record rental levels. He also advised Landsec on the leasing of their 115,000 sq ft retail development at 185–221 Buchanan Street, Glasgow, again achieving 100% pre-letting of the development. In addition to advising landlords and developers James provides strategic advice to several retail and leisure clients including Estee Lauder, Specsavers, ROX, A S Watson, TRIB3, Di Maggio Restaurant Group, Stack & Still, @pizza, Paul and Black Sheep Coffee. James has built strong trusted relationships with a diverse mix of clients over many years and continues to do so through his enthusiasm and passion for the retail and leisure property sector. James is a keen golfer and a member of Gullane Golf Club where The Scottish Open was held in 2015 and 2018. His highlight was being a Marshal for Ricky Fowler, the eventual winner on the final day in 2015.
