A native of Yorktown, Alan has lived his entire life on the Virginia Peninsula other than his college years at Virginia Tech. Upon graduating with degrees in Marketing and Business Management, Alan sought a career in commercial real estate though he had no background or connections to the field. After knocking on doors with nothing to offer beyond a cheap suit and an eagerness to learn, Alan landed a position at Drucker and Falk. While the salary was zero, it was an opportunity. Alan cut his teeth on “mom and pop” leases earning monthly fees that barely paid for lunch. The experience was invaluable however and deals lead to more deals. Unlike most entrants into the field, Alan was immersed in all sectors of commercial real estate including both leasing and sales of retail, office, industrial and land. As his career advanced, Alan began to specialize in investment properties. He brokered a number of retail centers and ultimately, carved a niche in multifamily. Apartment properties became a focus and Alan shifted over to Berkadia, a national company that dealt solely in multifamily brokerage. Alan established the first Virginia branch for Berkadia and for seven years helped build the office into formidable presence with transactions extending into 9 figures. Eventually the call to go back to his roots was strong and Alan sought to return to the commercial space with the aim of both brokerage and investment ventures. Hamner Development was the natural landing spot, with its pedigree of success in development and investment in the region. The diversity of commercial real estate Alan has handled provides for a unique skillset. With over a billion dollars in career transactions, Alan’s record for finding a path to the finish line is well proven. Alan is excited to add his abilities to the Hamner team, sharing a common vision of creativity and placing the client first.
