Gimli is located about 75 kms N of Winnipeg on the W shore of Lake Winnipeg with a 2016 census population of 6,181, a 5.7% increase over the 2011 census. The RM of Gimli resides as a 318.75 sq km strip of land N from Wpg Beach to Silver Harbour. The W population of the RM is largely agricultural, while the E portion with direct lake access comprises single-family residential & occasional commercial nodes. The W shore of Lake Wpg features a recreational use of the land year around. Many small cottage communities are within the E portion, although the Town of Gimli, the physical centre of the RM, is the largest & most densely populated area in the RM., there is considerable recreational use of the land year around. In recent years’ residential development has been slow, but continual, as new development sites are established within Gimli. Commercial development has existed primarily within the 1,396-acre Gimli Industrial Business Park, which is the former Royal Canadian Air Force Base, 6 kms W of Gimli.
