Main & Meeting: The Crossroads of Retail, Medical and Government
This ‘Main & Main’ intersection lies at the crux of Lancaster’s medical ‘wing’ (p. 5) to the west, the northern retail corridors (multiple grocery-anchored shopping centers such including Blue Lion, Bi-Lo, Walmart, etc), and various county departments to the East. In the immediate vicinity, this prime downtown site shares the corner with the Lancaster County Courthouse and County Administration Building (p. 11). This intersection also marks the ‘Civic Spine’ of the Downtown Revitalization Plan (p. 7-9), calling for a new ‘Petal Park’, streetscape improvements (bike/pedestrian pathways and trails, new street trees and public art), a Pop-up Art Plaza, a permanent Farmers Market, and renovations to existing structures. Also worth noting is Lancaster’s expanding medical industry following MUSC Health’s purchase of Springs Memorial Hospital last year.
